Sowieso was founded in 2008 by Marc van der Kemp on the site of an old butcher’s shop in Berlin’s Neukoelln district. After hosting thousands of concerts featuring some of Europe’s most adventurous free jazz and improvised music, Marc retired in 2021, handing over the club to WieMusik e.V., a small collective of musicians who volunteer their time to preserve the Sowieso legacy.
